The MORC Stars hockey team was formed in 2007 as a partnership between Macomb-Oakland Regional Center (MORC) and former professional hockey player Peter Ciavaglia.
Ciavaglia, who played for the Buffalo Sabres, Detroit Vipers, and the 1994 US Olympic Team, decided it was time to use his hockey talent to assist people with disabilities. He approached MORC, the non-profit human service agency that supports over 4000 people with developmental disabilities in Macomb and Oakland county, and the rest they say is history.
The Stars are one of two special hockey teams in Michigan; the other being the Far Flyers of Bloomfield Hills. The stars hope to provide competition for the Far Flyers and the many other teams throughout the country.
